I see a lot of people who want to make a difference in Idaho politics.
Some of them have moved here from another state and want to prevent Idaho from the same fate.
Others are native Idahoans wanting to keep Idaho from turning “blue.”
So, if you are just a “regular Joe” looking to make a difference, what can you do?
Well, I started a gun-rights group back in 2012. That is my passion.
But starting an organization is time-consuming, exhausting, and very stressful.
Perhaps you have thought about running for city council, mayor, or a state legislative office.
Again, those elected positions can be very time-consuming, exhausting, and stressful.
Many people choose not to “get involved” because it all seems like its too much work. However, there is something you can do to help that is less stressful but perhaps more important.
Have you ever considered running as a Precinct Committeeman for the republican party?
Do you know what a Precinct Committeeman (PC) is or does?
In short, a PC is elected by members of the party living in your precinct. Precincts are several square blocks of voters.
The election of PC’s usually takes place on the Republican Primary election day.
In Idaho, somewhere between 250 to 400 people vote in a typical PC race.
The question is, what does a PC actually do and why is it important?
Some consider the PC to be one of the most powerful positions in politics.
The PC helps determine the party platform. They help determine the direction of the party.
Want the Republican Party to take stronger stances on guns, life, or lower taxes? A PC helps make that determination.
You also get to help determine who would fill a vacated legislative seat!
For instance, if a legislator decides to leave office early, the PC’s in that District will play a major role in picking the replacement until the next election cycle.
Finally, the PC is also responsible for getting out the vote in their precinct.
Now, that may sound like a lot of work but it really isn’t in comparison to most other elected positions.
Of course, if you want to be a good PC then you would put work into the job you were elected to do.
Some people get elected as PC’s and then never show up again. That is not recommended or beneficial to the party.
Typically, a PC would attend their county’s central committee meeting once a month.
They would also help with local events for the party.
While there is some work involved, it may be less time-consuming than many other methods of political involvement and arguably more important.
If we want more actual conservatives running the party, then running as a local Precinct Committeeman is a must.
Moderates are doing everything they can to keep Idaho on a slow path to progressivism.
Whether you like it or not, the Republican Party is going to be the easiest path to promoting liberty.
Sadly, there are plenty of RINOs in the party who love their socialism but maybe not as much as Bernie Sanders. They are constantly battling the folks who enjoy liberty.
I would encourage each of you to run for PC if you feel like you are willing to help move the party in a more conservative direction.
If you decide to run for PC, you must do so by 5 p.m. on March 13th!
