Idahoans are now staring down the most radical ballot initiative our state has ever seen, a measure designed to enshrine abortion deeply and permanently into Idaho law.
Let me ask you plainly: How do you feel about killing babies at 23, 24, 25 weeks and beyond?
Because under Idaho’s abortion initiative, that’s exactly what will happen. Babies will be aborted in this state whenever a doctor decides it’s “okay,” and the initiative is written in a way that makes that decision nearly impossible to challenge. We’ll get into the details in a moment, but make no mistake: this initiative would put Idaho on par with California, New York, and the most liberal abortion regimes in the country.
According to multiple news reports, Idahoans United for Women and Families has already gathered around 50,000 signatures and is well on its way to the roughly 70,000 required by spring to place the initiative on the ballot. They are reportedly spending heavily to keep paid signature gatherers on the ground full‑time until they hit their target.
Now is the moment for Idahoans to dig deep and respond with a level of determination we haven’t needed before.
Here’s the heart of the issue: the initiative doesn’t set any week‑based limit at all. Instead, it hands the power entirely to physicians willing to perform abortions, defining “fetal viability” as:
“The point in a pregnancy when, on the basis of a physician’s good‑faith medical judgment, based on the facts known at the time, and determined on a case‑by‑case basis, the fetus has a significant likelihood of sustained survival outside of the uterus without extraordinary medical measures.”
Translated into plain English: The abortion provider gets to decide, on their own, case by case, whether a baby is “viable.” There is no objective standard. No oversight. No requirement for a second opinion. No week limit. No guardrails of any kind.
And who benefits from that? The very people performing the abortions.
It’s not hard to imagine how broadly this definition could be stretched. If a doctor claims a baby isn’t “viable,” even late in pregnancy, the initiative protects that decision. That’s not a limit, that’s a loophole big enough to drive a truck through.
There isn’t a single Republican‑led state in America that has anything close to this kind of abortion law. This is a far‑left, activist‑driven initiative designed to let abortion providers decide whether a baby lives or dies.
This initiative is an effort to legalize even more destruction of God’s unborn children.
We must mobilize every resource available in 2026 to defeat this abortion initiative when it appears on the ballot this November. From boots on the ground, to advertising, to community outreach, every Idahoan who cares about protecting life will need to be engaged.
I’m already working with others to push back, and I hope many more will join the effort.
